Saturday november 4th-Jumps & Throws session
The 2023 Track & Field Fall Development Series is brought to you by Myrtle Beach Sports. Our goals are to: Introduce youth to the sport of track & field; Provide current track & field athletes an out-of-season opportunity; Create awareness of opportunities provided by the Myrtle Beach Track & Field Club and the Spring Break Meets.
Elite Athlete/Instructor line-up for Saturday November 4th 9am-12:30pm (Field Events):
-Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump: Hyleas Fountain-Vaught, 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Heptathlon, 2010 World Championship Bronze Medalist Indoor Pentathlon, 5-time USATF National Champion Heptathlon and NCAA National Champion Heptathlon (University of Georgia)
-Pole Vault: Alina McDonald, 2022 USATF National Championship Silver Medalist, 2022 NACAC Gold Medalist (Pole Vault), Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium Record Holder, Personal Best 4.65m (15’ 3”)
-Javelin: Jason Flanagan, Coastal Carolina University All-American and HOF member, CCU School, Big South All-time and Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium Record Holder in the Javelin 74.83m (245’ 6”)
-Shot Put, Discus, Hammer: Ryan Minor, Big South Conference Hammer Throw Champion (Coastal Carolina University)
WHEN: 9am Saturday November 4th Field Events: (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Hammer)
WHERE: Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium (705 33rd Ave North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577)
WHO: Youth ages 6-18, all experience levels welcome, no experience necessary. Note: Participation in Pole Vault portion of clinic on 11/4 is limited to ages 13-18.
COST: $10/Saturday or $25 for all three
WHAT TO BRING: Personal water bottle, sun screen, athletic apparel, closed toe athletic/running shoes, event specific spikes if you have them (not required), and lots of energy.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Participants will be grouped by age and/or experience level. Groups will rotate through each of the event specific areas where they will be instructed by an experienced high school, college or club coach. Instruction will focus on introducing the sport, introducing the skills required, and the opportunity to practice the skills and receive feedback. Each Saturday will begin with a group warm-up and stretch and conclude with a group talk and cool-down. Each Saturday session will conclude between 12:00-12:30pm.
